My father's and uncle's Lionel Standard gauge Christmas garden, built with help from my grandfather, from 1926. The moon over the mountains was electrically illuminated.

If Jay Gatsby had owned a train layout, it would have looked like this one.

A book of old photos needs to be made.
Thanks for sharing your photos

The American Flyer S gauge Christmas layout my younger brother, Tom, my Dad, and I had in 1955. The gravel roads, mountain paper, and airport were inspirations from the 1930 layout.

Now that is a classic layout
with all the neat sets we could
not afford in 1955.

bingo bonus

My current American Flyer S gauge layout is pure tinplate and faithful to the "feel" of my layouts from the 50s and 60s. Several of the structures and accessories are the same ones in earlier pictures from the 1950s.

These are awesome photos. Thank you for sharing. How big are these layouts?

I have the same set of Rocket engines my
Dad bought for me in Dec 1953. Dad made
sure I took care of them and they still look
like new today. I'm enjoying your website.
Thanks

"Germantown" station viewed from overhead. The scenery faithfully includes the family tradition of gravel roads and mountain paper, started in the 1920s!

Love the classic 50s look. Hope to do the same with the layout I'm building.

A relatively current (Sept. 2006) picture of my prewar layout showing prewar Flyer and a repro MTH Blue Comet 400E. The layout is fully Legacy/TMCC capable. Note dual gauge (O and Standard) trackage.

Bob, Your layouts and train displays look excellent! Nice Work!

A display (mostly) of Gilbert ALCo PA passenger and freight sets from the 1950s. The second set from the top is my original 1953 chrome Silver Rocket set that can be seen traversing the trestle in picture 3.
From: Ken  Mon Nov 10 17:24:35 2003
The set of coaches behind the Rockets are the same I have. I'm trying to find the combination car that goes with the set, but
haven't come across any. What a great
collection!

Wow!! What a remarkable collection of trains.

From: Tyler  Sat Jan 16 21:54:31 2010
Wow! I would kill for an assortment of trains to run like that! How long did it take you to collect?

Various AF steam engines and sets from the 1940s and 50s. The '53 Trail Blazer set (Row 7) is a personal favorite. There are also a couple of rows of AF prewar 0 on lower rows. My very first train set is the 1949 No. 4901T Atlantic freight set on the top row.
From: Jim Glover  Sun Oct 2 21:42:34 2005
I'm impressed with row#7 myself since I have some of these particular passenger cars in my possession. They definitely go back a long way. I can be reached at jimpaso glover@yahoo.com

A Santa Fe passenger set (from 1952) pulls by the Harbor Junction freight depot.

Overview video of the American Flyer layout. A 1952 Santa Fe set and a 332AC Northern pulling heavyweights are doing the honors.

NOW THAT, IS REALLY NEAT!!!That Flyer smoke and choo-choo and the Sante Fe passenger set is always fun to see running!! THANKS!

From: Dave  Mon Jan 9 13:33:18 2006
Very nice layout - has the feel of those from the late '50s. Thanks!

A clip of the smoke and "choo choo" sound from a 1946 American Flyer 312 "smoke-in-tender" K5.
